Erase-Cl

What is Erase-Cl?
Erase-Cl is a water conditioner that removes chlorine, chloramines, ammonia, and nitrites from tap water and aquarium water.

What does Erase-Cl do?
It detoxifies harmful compounds commonly found in tap water and can also reduce ammonia and nitrite levels in aquariums, helping protect fish and invertebrates.

Is Erase-Cl safe for fish, corals, and plants?
Yes. When used as directed, Erase-Cl is safe for all marine and freshwater aquarium inhabitants.

When should I use Erase-Cl?

  • When using tap water for water changes
  • When chlorine or chloramine is present
  • When ammonia or nitrite is detectable
  • During emergency situations (e.g., parameter spikes)
  • When preparing new water for aquarium use

Can Erase-Cl be used during high ammonia or nitrite situations?
Yes. It can be used to temporarily detoxify ammonia and nitrite, helping reduce stress on livestock while the biological filter stabilizes.

Does Erase-Cl replace biological filtration?
No. It is a temporary solution and should not replace proper biological filtration or maintenance practices.

Can Erase-Cl be used during cycling?
It can be used if ammonia or nitrite rises to harmful levels, but it is not a cycling product. Use it alongside bacteria products like MicroBacter Start XLM if needed.

How do I dose Erase-Cl?

  • For tap water: approximately 5 ml per 50 gallons
  • For ammonia treatment: dose based on measured ammonia levels (re-test after dosing)

How quickly does Erase-Cl work?
It works quickly after dosing, with effects typically occurring within minutes.

Can I overdose Erase-Cl?
It is best to follow recommended dosing. Overuse is unnecessary and should be avoided.

Does Erase-Cl remove ammonia permanently?
No. It detoxifies or neutralizes ammonia temporarily. The biological filter must ultimately remove it.

Can Erase-Cl be used to neutralize iodine?
Yes. It can be used in emergency situations to neutralize iodine overdose in reef aquariums.

Should I use Erase-Cl with RO/DI water?
No. It is intended for use with tap water or situations where contaminants are present.

Does Erase-Cl affect test results?
Yes. It may interfere with certain ammonia test kits. Use a salicylate-based ammonia test for accurate readings.

When is Erase-Cl recommended in the Clean Aquarium Guide?
It is recommended as a support product when ammonia or nitrite levels are elevated, alongside bacterial solutions that address the root cause.

Why this matters for your support system

This positions Erase-Cl correctly as:

  • Emergency / preparation tool (not a primary solution)
  • Support product (not a replacement for bacteria or filtration)
